Title:   Seeing the Benefits of Immigration

School:   Whittier Elementary School
Boulder, CO
Awarded:   $1,000
Project:   Through digital video and still cameras, students will produce a series of presentations based on interviews and interactions with immigrants in their school and community. These videos will be presented to the community via the local television station, as well as used in presentations to a range of political entities.



Title:   Voices of the Other
By:   Barbara Ellard
School:   St. Frances Academy
Baltimore, MD
Awarded:   $800
Project:   In collaboration with Johns Hopkins University's "Youth Radio" program, students will produce an audio-journal of interviews between students and immigrants in their communities. The hope is to air "Voices of the Other" on the local public radio station.



Title:   Multicultural Book Parade

School:   Groveton Elementary
Alexandria, VA
Awarded:   $500
Project:   The Multicultural Book Parade project celebrates the countless contributions of immigrants to America by showcasing the rich and diverse literature and art from many countries around the globe, and by highlighting how these stories of courage, resilience, and strength help American to be the country of immigrants it is today.



Title:   Personal History of 3 Generations
By:   Victor Diaz
School:   Yeruba Buena High School
San Jose, CA
Awarded:   $500
Project:   Students will create individual power point presentations based on their family history of a grandparent, parent, and themselves. They will formulate questions for personal interviews, create a map of the places where each was born and how they came to live where they do now and also include a family tree. Students would gather pictures of their families and research important world events that were occurring during each generation, and analyze how these events affected the reasons for their ancestor's immigration.
