Receiving
the AILF Torchlight Award at the AILF Annual Award Dinner in Seattle
will be Washington Governor Gary Locke. Gov. Locke has been an outspoken
advocate for immigrants' rights, and has been one of the national judges
for the AILF-AILA "Celebrate America" children's creative writing contest
for three years in a row. Governor Gary Locke was elected Washington's
21st governor on November 5, 1996, winning a 58 percent majority. Through
part-time jobs, financial aid and scholarships, Locke attended Yale
University Law School. AILF is honored to have Governor Locke as recipient
of this award, presented to outstanding immigrants or immigrant advocates.
