Bryan Logan

Bryan Logan, an immigrant from Northern Ireland, is the chairman and sole owner of the EarthData group of companies, which consists of EarthData Holdings, EarthData Aviation, EarthData International, EarthData Pacifica, EarthData Solutions, EarthData Technologies, Horizons, Inc. and Towill, Inc.

The EarthData group is an airborne mapping, remote sensing, mapping, and geographic information system (GIS) services organization. The company operates throughout the United States as well as internationally and provides its clients with three-dimensional digital terrain models and digital thematic maps.

As an immigrant in 1985, Mr. Logan bought EarthData (then known as Photo Science, Inc.) from the company’s founder. In the twenty years since, he has expanded the organization from a $1 million company to a $58 million-dollar enterprise with 360 employees.

Mr. Logan began his career in mapping with the BKS Survey Group in his hometown of Coleraine, Northern Ireland. He started as a cartographer in 1968 and rose to managing director by 1979. During his tenure as Managing Director, Mr. Logan expanded both the company’s technical capabilities and its market base, undertaking projects throughout Europe, in Africa, the Middle East, and the United States. As a result, BKS Surveys more than tripled its exports and won the Queen’s Award to Industry for Export Achievement in 1983 - the most prestigious honor a British company can receive. Inspired by the American business climate early in his career, Mr. Logan set his sights on eventually owning a company in the United States. EarthData is the realization of that dream.

Mr. Logan is a member of the Management Association of Private Photogrammetric Surveyors, where he served as president from 1993-1995. He is a member of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and he served as a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business in 1986.

Mr. Logan received his education in engineering studies at Coleraine Technical College, Coleraine, Northern Ireland and in management at Urwick Business College in Slough, England. He also is a certified photogrammetrist.

He serves on the board of directors of Provident Bank of Maryland and the board of trustees of the Alice Ferguson Foundation, which provides environmental education to Washington area students at a farm beside the Potomac River. Mr. Logan is married to Janet L. Dewar and resides in Washington, DC.
