Enrique Graf
A native of Uruguay, Mr. Graf came to the United States in 1973 to study with Leon Fleisher, after being awarded a grant from the organization of American States and a full scholarship from the Peabody Conservatory.
Since then, he has won the First Prize in the Kapell International Piano Competition. Mr. Graf has appeared in major halls throughout the United States in recitals and with orchestra from Florida to Alaska, in South America, from the tip of Chile to Venezuela, and in Europe and Asia, as well.
Mr. Graf is founder and Artistic Director of the International Piano Series at Charleston, South Carolina. He has founded concert series and exchange programs on three continents. He is one of a handful of pianists in the world who concertizes at the international, top-flight level, but also is known as one of the most sought-after, and effective teachers. His students come from all over the world to study with him. His deep interest in teaching has taken him to most of the leading universities and conservatories in the United States, South America, Europe, and South East Asia to present master classes.
Mr. Graf's expressive range is known for its versatility. As comfortable and convincing with the depth of late Beethoven as with the color and warmth in the music of the Romantics like Chopin and Liszt, he also makes Bach, Debussy, and Albeniz come alive. He has introduced many audiences to contemporary music. His recent compact disc, Enrique Graf Plays Bach, was the pick of the month by The London Sunday Times and was awarded five stars in Classic CDs.
Mr. Graf is also in demand as a chamber musician, performing this season in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and South America with various ensembles.
